You need a 2A, 13.8VDC power supply. If you don't use the ICOM cable you can use a 2.5mm ID/5.5mm OD (my eyeball measure) coaxial power connector, but the seller must have the molex jumper to enable the coaxial power receptacle.

you may not like this opinion, but if the seller is unwilling to prove the radio working without you sending him a power cord .... there is something very very wrong there.

the 8500 went out of production ~16 years ago (2004) - so I would also be VERY wary of buying one that isn't a proven "working unit" --- there are very few if any parts left for them and iCom does not service them anymore.

How come he has the receiver without any power source?

"Look what I bought from a dodgy looking guy I don't know in the bar last night - real cheap"

Just then there was a heavy knock on the door.....

he said his father just died, and cannot find any leads, this is why I was sending the power suppl,I would not buy it unless he sent me a video of him and the receiver working.

A minor point, but when I bought my R8500 new from a dealer in March 2016, Icom advised the manufacture date was September 2015. I did read elsewhere that manufacture ceased somewhere in 2014/2015.

Dealing with deceased estates can be difficult, because usually the family won't be familiar with what they are looking at or for, so cables, power supplies manuals etc. can be a problem.

Before proceeding, if not already get pix of the unit from all sides including the serial number. They at least will give you an indication of the external physical condition of the unit. And yes, exercise caution re the deal.

I had a similar situation buying an IC-R9000 from a family interstate. The original carton was long gone, so I posted them a large heavy duty type with Styrofoam panels and bubble wrap. Being a heavy and delicate unit, at least I was satisfied it would be packed well, rather than in a much smaller carton with crushed newspaper ....
