Hello Group:

Apologies in advance if this is posted somewhere else on this board. I searched but did not find what I'm looking for - An Icecast/Talk Group Tutorial.

While I'm fairly competent with technology and already have an audio only stream set-up using Icecast & Oddcast for Winamp, I'd really like to add the alpha tags via the Talk Group Monitor. Eventhough I've read the text files supplied within TGM, they are just not intuitive enough for me to successfully set this up.

I'm one of those types that needs a detailed step-by-step series of instructions, i.e. step 1 bring up the Icecast server, step 2 configure Icecast in the following way, etc. Screen shots would be ideal as part of the tutorial.

I know I'm asking alot, but I believe others would benefit greatly from this type of document as well. Is there anything out there like this?

Thanks in advance - Mike

P.S. I'm also running a streamwebtown feed using "screen capture" to provide alpha tags, but really want to set-up the Icecast/TGM solution as an alternative for my listeners.

Well you didn't mention it, so I'm going to ask the obvious: Are you also running Oddcast to push the tag data to Icecast? Icecast does not have the ability to do this by itself.

Having said that, Scancapecod.us has some excellent tutorials that you might want to take a look at: http://www.scancapecod.us/wiki/index.php/Scanner_Feed_Setup_Tutorials

This one includes info on setting up TG Monitor with Simplecast: http://www.scancapecod.us/livescan/feed_tutorial.pdf

TGMonitor's configuration should be the same for Icecast/Oddcast as is shown in the above referenced tutorial (it even has those screenshots you wanted :) )

The new version of TGM will send the tags directly to Icecast. Oddcast or Simplecast can be used as the encoder to feed Icecast the audio.

Guys:

Thanks so much for the replies. I think I'm almost there, but need a small push over the goal line.

1) I reviewed Scan Cape cods tutorials again
2) I have the Icecast server up and running
3) I have serproxy up and running. It says server(1) - thread started
4) I have TGM (latest version) up and running. It is showing the alpha tags for the frequencies I entered into the titles.txt file.

Remaining Issue: The alpha tags are not appearing in WinAmp when I connect to the stream. Hopefully, I'm just missing something simple at this point.

Any help would be appreciated!!!

Thanks - Mike

Ignore my last post, I found the issue! I forgot to change my mount point from /live to
/stream.ogg per my encoder set-up in Oddcast. I now have the alpha tags coming thru Winamp properly :) :) :)

Now I just have to go back in and completely fill out my titles.txt file with all my other frequencies & TG's. Now I have streams using streamwebtown (screen capture method) & Icecast/Oddcast/TGM.

Appreciate the help in directing me back to Scan Cape Cod's tutorials. I had read those before when doing my audio only set-up, but reviewing them again pointed me in the right direction.

Happy now - Mike

AZScanner:

Thanks. While I have the "non-talk group" stuff working great as you see in the screen shots, I am having problems getting talk-group frequencies to show up in WinAmp. Do you have any titles.txt examples showing how to properly configure an EDACS wide system?

Thanks again - Mike

I don't - when I attempted using Icecast I actually wrote my own "talkgroup monitor" that just dumped the alphatag data from the scanner's display into a txt file that was then referenced and added to the stream in Oddcast.

You can see an example of this on my current stream (http://streamwebtown.com/phoenixprwn) - enable captions in Media Player to see the alpha's.

Bob, does this mean serproxy is not needed anymore with this new version? I am using Simplecast / Icecast, TGM and serproxy.
thanks.

Serproxy is still needed, the Talkgroup Monitor program uses serproxy to communicate with the scanner.

After you install TGM you'll edit the monitor.cfg file (click on the Start button -> Programs -> Talkgroup Monitor -> Edit config file). If you're not using SimpleCast then you'll edit the parameters that start with ICECAST_ to specify your Icecast username, password, mount, etc. If you're using SimpleCast then you'll comment out the ICECAST_ parameters (put # in front of them), uncomment the SIMPLECAST_ parameters (remove the # from in front of them) and set them to the appropriate values. For more help click on Start -> Programs -> Talkgroup Monitor and then select "Configuring for SimpleCast" or "Configuring for Icecast".

As mentioned earlier, if you're running more than one copy of Talkgroup Monitor to stream titles from more than one scanner you only need to run one copy of serproxy.
