Icom: Icom 2730 Extension Cable

I'm getting ready to mount a 2730 and a Whistler TRX-2 in my car. Can I use a regular CAT 6 cable as the extension cable for the control head? Icom is asking $44 for their extension cable that is 11 feet long.

A standard CAT6 network cable will not work as computer network cables use the RJ45 connectors. The 2730 uses a RJ11/12 connector which is smaller.

Network cables have 8 wires while the Icom cable only has 6 wires.

My only problem with those cables are they are made using flat cable which is more susceptible to picking up RFI.

The cable is actually a straight through 6 conductor cable and uses the RJ11/12 connector. You could always make your own cable. I will suggest using shielded cable.
