I recently replaced the memory battery in an old Icom IC-28A that I got recently, and amazingly the old battery from '99 was still holding a voltage after 21 years, and still maintaining the radio's memories. But, to be safe, it was replaced. Have replaced many memory batteries in radios, all were dead except this one, a Matsushita.

I have a 28A...with it's original (as far as I can tell) battery...and it's still working. Granted, the radio was powered up for 20+ years as a base radio, but those lithium batteries under the right conditions can last a L O N G time.
