One can attach all sorts of antennas to their radios, but I found my favorite antenna for use with Uniden 396xx or even the RS pro-137 with the sma jack that fits perfectly and works well:

The ICOM FA-S270C duck.

This is the oem antenna that you'll find on the Icom R5's and RX-7's and maybe even earlier units. It fits like a glove.

It seems to be the right combination of fit, mass, and performance. :)

I know everyone has their favorite, but this one doesn't poke me in the eyes or armpits, fall over when you sneeze etc.

I have a drawer full of other good antennas from Diamond, Comet, etc, but this is the one I'm hanging on to for day to day use. Something like this should be the standard duck that comes with the Unidens rather than the VHF tuned oem duck.

Greetings!
This antenna is used or was used on the Q7A small dual band 144/440 with wide receive. Works well on my Q7A.

Works great on the 850 mhz conventional systems I ran across. To be fair, while it works much better than the oem duck, the systems around here can practically be heard with a paper-clip. :)
