It seems to me that this could be quite useful i.e. control or monitor etc any scanner support CI-5 over the Net.

The alternative is a scanner with a built in web server which no one appears to have produced to date?

And no, I do not want to set up a PC just for this purpose. Something like a Raspberry Pi could also handle CI-5 to Ethernet without even blinking, however my preferred programming language is solder.

Think this through a little more and a better solution is 'simply' say a Raspberry Pi running a Linux based scanner control program. The Pi could connect easily to any RS232 or USB scanner interface (CI-5 interfaces are basically TTL level RS232 I believe ?)and in some cases be mounted in the scanner itself (RFI issues aside).

I know Linux software exists, I'll locate a package and try it on a Pi. Then it's just a matter of SSHing to the Pi and you have full remote control over the Net. I already have remote listening via a Pi (running Darkice and Icecast)
