• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

    If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

    To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

    The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

    For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Does anyone have the instructions / install page for an ICOM OPC-617 cable? I want to know how to wire it up for ignition sense? I checked around ICOM's website, but haven't been able to find anything. Do I just hook my ignition sense wire to pin 1, and if so, what kind of pin would I use? First time using something like it. Thanks!

I don't deal with the F521 Series too much. But based on what Icom sent you it would appear that the F521 doesn't bring the Ignition sense out e OPC617 cable.

Looks like you need to tap the circuit board right where they pointed you to. Like I said, I don't mess with that series much so I don't know, but it look like Icom provided you with what you needed.

The only "official" directions for ignition sense that Icom has is for the OPC617 with the F121/F121S Series. There is no mention of OPC617 with F521 and Ingition Sense.

Attached is the doc that Iamhere300 was talking about... [Removed, contact me on PM for the PDF]

Howver this is for the F121 w/OPC617.

If you look at the SCAN from Icom - it is from the service manual and they are telling you where to tap an IC to make ignition sense work.

I don't know for sure, but the F521 might not present the Ignition Sense to the OPC617 like the F121.

I purchased 18 used units from Alaska. There was an extra red wire added, and I eventually confirmed that it had been put in as an ignition sense. It's soldered to pin 4 of J8, the one that is connected to Q44 (on page 31 of the F510 Service Manual). The tech who added them had a .47 capacitor to ground near the soldered connection. Don't know if that's necessary.

From an IC-F610 Transceiver Technical Report, item 5 Ignition SW function, they have the following:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This function turn ON and turn OFF the transceiver, via condition of car’s switch key.
Usually to supply the power of transceiver, directly connecting to the car’s battery is recommended,
but in case that driver forget to turn OFF the transceiver after leaving the car the battery will be
discharged, so this function is designed to work with car’s ignition key.
Setting requirements
Cut the following coffee beans: On main unit, cut the pin #4 of J8
and connect the ACC SW of car’s switch on this line.

Operation
FRONT SW “ON “condition:
IGSW : H -> Power ON condition ->ON
IGSW : L -> Power OFF condition ->OFF
FRONT SW “OFF “condition:
IGSW : H -> Power OFF condition ->OFF
IGSW : L -> Power OFF condition ->OFF
Setting
Set the following items in cloning software:
On COMMON window -> Expert window -> etc item
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
As indicated above, there's no mention in this about the bypass capacitor.
