Not a bad idea. I'll give it a try! I guess that's why Icom integrates those functions (plus squelch) into one double knob.

Can anyone who has or had a 7100 comment on the receiver? Is it good, bad or mediocre?

Its surprisingly good for the price. Looking at the 2Khz spaced close dynamic range, ARRL labs tested it at 84dB, which is not bad. That rates somewhere between a Yaesu FTDX-3000 and an Icom R-9500 for comparison, both much more expensive radios. Its a very nice receiver in general use and things like the DSP and noise blanker work well.

I finally pulled the trigger and got the 7100. It just arrived yesterday, and I haven't had a chance to hook it up or even unbox it yet;. I'll let you know how I like it when I've used it a while.
