I have a perfectly working 756 (not pro) that still has a properly working display. I am trying to decide if I will keep it or my TenTec Pegasus II. One has to go due to not enough room in new shack.

I have heard on some forums that later S/N 756 radios did not seem to have display failure while the real early one had high failure rates. My radio has a display that still looks new and is a later S/N Model. Is there any truth to the later S/N models not having the same troubles or is mine a time bomb ready to go off.

My Paragon II performs equally to the 756 and has even more filters but I do like the smaller size of the 756.

I have searched all over the web and can not find the answer to my question about S/N vs display failure.

What have you folks seen on the 756 radios

Why not sell them both and buy a newer smaller radio that would greatly outperform them.

Adam Farson AB4OJ is an Icom guru of sorts. Here's what he says about the IC-756 on his site:

IC-756 - $450 to $600, depending on filters - a very good deal at current used prices. LCD display, Twin PBT, Dual Watch, spectrum scope, internal ATU. Excellent performer. A hybrid analogue/DSP design; analogue IF filters, DSP modulation, demodulation, noise-reduction, auto-notch etc. Quiet DDS synthesiser Monochrome LCD display is subject to failure; display module is discontinued. A replacement LCD display module is now available from Richard, PA7FA.
