In production? I'm skeptical that they are actually in production right now.

That is was ICOM rep's at the Tokyo Ham Fair 2024 told people visiting the ICOM booth. Deliveries in the States by November 2024. It is going to be in the $6,000 USD price range too rich for me but I am going for a 7610 here in a few weeks.

I like how Icom lets you use the RC-28 remote tuner I really like mine on the 7610 and they let you hookup a external monitor to mirror the screen SDR without using a computer the only thing I question is why are they sticking with DVI connection? ...I mean the 7610 uses DVI I just bought a adapter for my monitor unless there is something about DVI which makes it better not sure just find it kinda odd for$6000 ...but it is still looks really nice wish it had VHF/UHF also capabilities now that would be super nice!...73,s Marcy

I’m new to this, and have spent less than $50 total so far on a portable radio and retractable antenna. But… people regularly spend $1,000+ for a phone, over $1,000 a year for phone service, internet service, streaming services, video gaming services, $2,000+ for camera gear, $2,000-8,000+ for bicycles…

From what I can see, radio guys will have shelves and shelves in their basement/garage shack filled with radios they paid an average of $65 each for on eBay and Marketplace, lol.

If someone is a serious hobbyist… yes, $6G is a lot, but compared to what?

Go to the Elecraft website and price out a fully-optioned K4. I know a guy who has two of them. And, both feed their own Alpha legal-limit amplifier. And, he has a 10-acre field filled with towers and antennas.

Or, look at K9CT's or K3LR's stations with their multiple, fully-equipped operating stations and fields full of antennas.

Some hams are very serious about their HF contesting or DXing stations. And, then, there's the rest of us.

4 antenna sockets on the body: great, I thought - shack in a box HF/6/2/70CM.

But its only HF & 6M …..

I may be wrong here but I think that a radio that do all those bands plus HF is a jack of all trades but master of none.
For that coverage I agree, but HF/6/2/70cm is doable, but perhaps the manufacturers want us to buy two units, one for HF/6m and the other VHF/UHF :)

I shall have to hang onto my IC-9100 a bit longer.

That may be true and i personally don't have a problem with that. I'm sure HF/6/2/70cm is technically doable no doubt about that. how good it would be is another thing. I had a TS2000 that was essentially a shack in a box. It was not a bad rig but not stellar either plus if it breaks then you have a problem unless you have a spare radio for some/all of the bands which brings us back at having more than 1 rig anyway. I have nothing against shack in a box it's just not something i would be interested to buy.

Interesting, but out of my budget. I like ICOM rigs, I have a 7100, 7300, 5100, 51a+, 52a+ 60th anniversary titanium edition and bought and sold a '705 a couple of years ago. For those looking for a shack in a box, the Yaesu 991A is probably your radio. I prefer to have separate rigs for HF and VHF/UHF (the 7100 being a late acquisition from an estate that was too good to pass up - and it's only used on VHF/UHF). I wonder if this is the radio that was teased at the Dayton Hamvention (a bunch of boards pictured). This forum is the first that I saw a link to the specs. Thanks for sharing, folks!

A new version of the IC-7700 which was never a really popular radio. I am sure they sold a bunch of them but you don't often hear much talking about them. You hardly ever see anyone discussing a 7700 in the various ham radio forums.
