By chance, is anyone using the IC-A120 for airband scanning, and if so, how does it work for you? I currently run a BCT15X in my vehicle just for airband, with an external Larsen Antenna. It works pretty well, overall it's the best mobile solution I've found for airband. However, the 15X sometimes has sensitivity & selectivity issues that can be annoying; for example, occasionally it will "hang" on frequencies that don't have any audible voice traffic, and you just hear static. (I suspect it's sometimes picking up very weak signals from far away; adjusting the squelch doesn't always help).

Anyhow I've been toying with the idea of adding a IC-A120 (likely with a Stridsberg multicoupler), maybe to scan 10-15 Memory channels (I'm assuming it has a slow scan speed), mostly for "local" airband traffic. Does anyone with personal experience using the A120, have any feedback on how it works for airband scanning when using a relatively small# of memory channels (maybe 5-15)?

Actual aircraft transceivers are generally not the best sensitive receivers--they do not need to be as up in the air terrain and other obstructions are not an issue. Hanging of frequencies is another matter and without knowing more I do not think much can be said about that. That *might* be due to other nearby signals, gambling, the A120 *might* help with that. Otherwise, in general though, using an IC-120 not a cost effective improvement over a decent scanner.

The Icom RX sensitivity is "1uV or less" for 6db SINAD. Selectivity is around 60db for both 8.33 ans 25KHz.
The Uniden is rated at .3uV for 12db SINAD on VHF 108-138. Selectivity isn't published in their online specifications.
That's a night and day difference as far as sensitivity, the Uniden is a clear winner.

Check out the new 160DN. Works great on airband for me and its dirt cheap. Comes with NXDN and DMR (non trunking).
Are the actual receiver components and filters superior to the BCT15X? In my experience the newer scanners all do worse with Airband, is this one an exception?
