• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Same concern about 121

I am new to programming the F121. I am setting these up in 4 of our ambulances. They seem to work fine. I have the scan turned off when the radio turns on. I have buttom 1 programmed to start or stop scan. The scan works properly without the mic being grounded but it shuts off after about 2 minutes, why? I am also wondering what everyone is using for SQ level. I started at 45 but im not sure that is best. Can anyone tell me there common setup that works well for their total setup,

Thanks for any help.

To hook scan is a very annoying feature of the Icom. The radio will not continue scanning without the mic hung up. I don't know why they have that feature but they do. The only way around it is to wire the microphone so it's grounded all the time (which I do not recommend).

On the sq the default values should be fine unless you move into a very rf intensive area.

The only setting you may want to change is the minimum volume value. I purposely setup my public safety radios so the volume cannot be turned all the way down to zero. I have seen a lot of calls get missed because guys turned the radio down to talk on the cell and did not turn it back up. A little experimentation will get you a value that can be heard but not blaring.

I just bought F121 and everything works fine, except scanning. It only works with a PL 2303 cable plugged to the radio and with other end only disconnected (just loosely hanging). With a mic grounded or not does not work.Thank you for any help.
