• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Icom IC-F521 programming: scanning stops after 30 seconds

This HAS to be something simple, but I cannot figure out what it is. Obviously, I have got something set incorrectly. After pushing the SCAN START/STOP button, which is P0, the word "SCANNING" appears for exactly 30 seconds, then the rig reverts to the channel it was last set to, and so far I cannot tell that it is actually scanning or not, but it doesn't appear to be.

In Key & Display Assign, I have P0 programmed to SCAN A START/STOP and BANK
in SCAN LIST, I have LIST 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5, all with M1(NORMAL) and the word SCANNING on the same line as LIST 1
In SCAN SETTING, I have STEP 5.000, RESUME 3.000, FAST SCAN 0.04, SLOW SCAN 0.3, POWER ON OFF.

In each bank, after each entry, I have in SCAN LIST, the number of that bank.

From this info, can anyone tell me why 1) scanning stops after 30 seconds, and 2) why the scanning function does NOT appear to be actually listening for a signal on any channel ?

I suspect that the reason scanning appears to stop after 30 seconds is that I have something not set correctly so that the scan function is not actually activating.

OK. I found out why we are not scanning: the microphone must be grounded to the radio. Works very well now.

Common gotcha. Look at Hanger Action>Scan under Key and Display.
Thank you. That fixed it....and helped me understand the scanning function better. It works somewhat differently from most other scanning functions in other radios. Once understood and implemented correctly, it works superbly. It is very fast. My users, many of whom are in our local Search and Rescue groups, are quite pleased with it.

Also, the only microphones which start the scan when grounded are those with a "button" type hanger on the back of the mic. Those with a flat perforated metal hanger don't work.
