Still have one I bought when they first came out. They were much like the RTL SDR USB sticks that have proliferated this hobby now. With Bonito software they operated much the same but with better shielding due to the metal case. I did not buy the DSP module (UT-106) though, so I do not get the advantage of the cleaner signal. I did download software that let me use it with a Palm Pilot though, so it lived in my car, with a better antenna for a number of years. The Palm Pilot being used to tune and scan mostly VHF and UHF in my area. The antennas that Icom provided were trash. Software worked ok on Windows XP. This was also the first receiver used in the first Predator UAV's (RQ-1). However, the military received better software, and no blockage of cellular bands. I still use it as a computer connected receiver, but SDR sticks are easier to carry around and use these days. If you can find one cheap $150-200 they are a fun toy, I would not pay more for one though.

And crappy HF performance. Tends to overload easily and not all that selective, either. In it's day, the TenTec RX320 series made it look positively sick on HF

I still use one to this day simply for monitoring single frequencies in the VHF and above bands. I pipe the audio out of the "packet" output to the line in of the PC it's connected to, and thus am able to use DSD+ FL to decode digital modes as well. Good for a tuck out of the way auxiliary receiver if you can find one that's cheap.

Hey, thanks people. I couldn't find many viable rundowns on these. Dealers tent to bloat specs for the sales.

I have a couple of them. One with a UT-106; the other without. I may add the DSP module to the second unit.

I'd give the RF performance edge to an Optocom, OS-535-equipped Pro-2035/2042 or an OS-456 equipped Pro-2006...but the PCR-1000 can do a few things those scanners can't. A portable monitoring go bag of mine would typically hold an Optocom, a PCR-1000, small form factor PC to control both and to run DSD.

As pointed out above, $100-150 is a fair price. I certainly won't pay more for one.

I got mine to run some odd RF signal survey program from Italy. It worked pretty well, though the software only worked via native RS232, not USB so I was limited to the computer I could use. The more basic PCR-100's were plentiful for sub $100 for a while because they were used for automated logging FM broadcast stations. I would peg the value of a PCR-1000 much higher than $175 to $200 as it is a HF multimode receiver and certainly better than an SDR dongle with respect to performance.

Icoms program works in Win10 and I don't know if that needs any special drivers. I use those that can be found at Icoms webpage for Win7 / Vista.

So, I emailed PCR Anywhere and their email server will not accept emails for out.com, so their website seems a bit suspect to me, So, if I connect my Pi 4 can I access it from my LAN using my Windows !! machine.
pcranywhere.com is the official site of this software but he is not developing new version. You can trust this site.

Greetings and Merry Christmas to everyone. Hopefully everyone is enjoying the day.
Has anyone installed the Lunix verion of PCR AnyWhere on a Pi raspberry? if so, I would appreciate a little help in trying to run the .bin file. I have tried, downloaded the file, the manual and followed the instructions, but I just cannot extract and run the .bin file.
A little help would be very appreciated.

Hello,
Sorry for my English.
I have an icom pcr 1000 it works fine but I can't seem to get it to work with dsdfastlane.
Do you need a usb cable or original rs232 cable is enough?
Thank you

Is there any website that documents fast lane capabilities with various Icom receivers? Documentation seems minimalistic at best.
