I recently purchased an R20 by Icom and am very new at this stuff. I have been able to do about all I want with this scanning receiver but tune in my local AM Broadcast stations. I live in IL and am trying to tune in .890, .720, and .780 but receive nothing while my AM/FM radio brings these stations in loud and clear. Any help will be appreciated.

By the way, the manual for the R20 is rather daunting.

It takes a fair amount of trial and error to learn to program the R-20. I used to have one but it no longer suited my monitoring needs.

Make sure you have the band set correctly, then enter the frequency. You may also have to play with the squelch controls since it has some automatic limits.

Somewhere I have info about an aftermarket manual of sorts- goes more into detail than the Icom one does

Have fun

Gentlemen,

Thanks very much for your help. I finally figured it out late last night. Yes, the manual is horrible but I do like the receiver. Have a great week-end.

Did you go into the AM menu setting and make sure that the AM receiver is set to use the internal ferrite bar antenna? Without it you won't get much unless you are using an enormous antenna.

Mine receives AM broadcast better than any other radio I have.

Dumb question but just in case... your definitely in AM mode and not in FM mode?

Just checking I use to do that all the time on my Icom (switch to .680 say but forget to change to AM)
