Hello the ICOM-R3 is a good wide band unit its not digital and the scanning on it is slow because its a receiver and it does not have a direct entry keypad & you will be better of buying the ICOM-R20 its got a direct entry keypad and the frequency range is better and you also get SSB and its easier to use and performance wise they are bot very good.

Hello I use to have an R-3 and I do not think it had the alpha tagging and SSB Single Sidenband Signals on HF and I never got to playaround with cameras on mine and like I said performance wise the receiver is excellent and you can buy software for it from Butel to load it up with frequencies.

Regards Lino.

Yes, it has alpha tags! And a bandscope and other neat stuff.
It will not trunk track, and of course no digital, so it is limited to conventonal frequencies.
It is a nice radio to carry around, as you can receive anything, AM, FM, weather, even watch TV.
Make sure you get the battery space for NiMH batterys, the standard battery won't give much TV or big display time.
If you are used to something like a 396 you may not like this radio, but it is excellent for general use.
