Greetings All,
I recently purchased an ICOM IC-R30, and have encountered a small problem that I'm hoping someone can help with.
I am VERY pleased with the radio performance, but the human interface is NOT the greatest.
I own (and have owned) a number of ICOM radios, and this one takes the award for most keystrokes required to save a single memory!
The saving grace is the ability to interface with a computer.
All ICOMs utilize a fairly standard command set for transferring data to and from the radio.
Over the course of many years, I have developed my own software to take advantage of this ability,
and fully expected to do likewise for the IC-R30.
However, there appears to be a problem with the USB interface on this radio.
I run Linux, and have done so for many years.
Up until this radio, Linux has worked quite well with just about ANY USB device that I have connected.
However, this particular radio seems to have an issue. The Linux driver (CDC-ACM) finds the radio,
even reports on model/serial, but takes an error attempting to assign a '/dev' to it.
Note that charging through the USB works fine.
I am not sure if this is a deficiency in the Linux driver, some incorrect setting on the radio, or possibly a defect in the USB port in the radio.
If the later is the case, I need to know this ASAP so I can return the radio for an exchange.
Has anyone who owns this radio attempted to use the USB port with a Linux OS?
Note that I do NOT own any Windows machines. I CAN make temporary use of a friend's system,
but I do not have any Windows software to test it with.
Thanx
Richard Rosa
