There is a BIG difference. Only an eccentric millionaire would buy a 9500 for a scanner.

Looks like it will... if you purchase the optional UT-122 APCO25 Digital voice decoder board for an additional $189.95.

You would think if you're dropping that kind of money receiver Icom could at least throw in the damn APCO 25 card.

I do wonder what the street price will settle out at. It's going to be hideously high. We're quibbling over a few thousand one way or another after all.

I'd also love to hear how it stacks up against the AOR AR-Alpha. I think they're both going to be excellent performers in that in that stratospheric level.

I've dropped some money on radios in the past, I own both the Icom R-8500 and an AOR AR5000+3/SDU5500 so I'm not averse to spending money on radios but these new radios go way out of my price range. I might go as high as 3 grand on a radio if it was something really special (some used rhode and schwarz gear or something) but no higher. I'd like to see AOR and Icom get something new back at the 1000-2000 price point where the R-8500 and AR-5000 series were at. It seemed to a be a sweet spot for the high end of consumer receivers.

Hello,I am getting my Apco-P25 thrown in with the unit and I saved about 1500 bucks from the Unit.Actually in Australia the Radios are very expensive and one thing I noticed we do not have any Problems with ICOM Radios in Australia not like in America but we do have retailers that do sell radios from the US at a cheaper and ICOM will know buy checking the serial number and by the way I use to be the proud owner on these following radios AOR-3030,ICOM-R7100,ICOM-R8500,NRD-545 and these radios took a lot off room on my desk.
