Checking to see if I might be allowed a copy of the software and alignment instructions for the ICOM IC-V8000. Radio needs put back on frequency.

If the software is copyrighted by Icom or anyone else, this is not the place to ask about it. Soliciting, distributing, or offering to distribute copyrighted software is not permitted by the RadioReference forum rules.

The alignment instructions are probably available from Icom, but they may also be copyrighted by Icom.

What leads you to believe that the radio "needs put back on frequency"?

OOPS!
Sorry about that. First thing I did was check with ICOM customer service. They said that software and instructions was only sent to dealers and service centers. I found their service manual on the internet. There is no alignment data in it.
The reason I want to use it is to correct a 250Hz frequency error my Marconi microwave counter shows me. Not worth shipping it just for that.

I had a similar experience with Icom many years back. They don't care about their customers. Good to know nothing has changed.

On the other hand a few years ago I emailed Yaesu's tech support about an issue with one of their products and they emailed me the service manual, which had alignment mode menu instructions and no need for special software.

Guess which manufacturer I never buy anything from again.

The V8000 looks to be the ham version of a LMR commercial radio and extremely hardy. I suspect the programmer limitation comes from the LMR market. I also have an ICOM IC-208H. This one looks to be a ham version of an avionics radio. Its alignment software is built into the front panel. Neither one has any internal adjustments.
If I had realized ICOM keeps alignment on the V8000 a secret, I would have passed it up. It is will built though.

RT Systems has programming software for the IC-V8000:

It's always bugged me that Icom either charges for programming software or farms it out to a third party who expects to make a profit. Other amateur radio manufacturers have free programming software.

Really surprised that alignment info isn't in the service manual. Seems odd that a service related task would be documented someplace other than the service manual. If the frequency alignment is a software adjustment, maybe there's a service menu that can be accessed to tweak things. That said, is 250 Hz within the frequency spec for the radio? In other words, is it worth worrying about?

Well on the IC-208H, the service menu is built into the front panel. Access is by plugging an alignment fixture in the mic jack and powering up, holding a key combination. The computer moves the reference frequency in hops, but can be set within 100Hz of spec. Radio has active temperature compensation. Computer moves alignment points as per temperature.
The V8000 looks like it does the same. Software may not be part of the radio though.
Yea, 250Hz error no big deal. I just like to get it right. Getting these radios within 100Hz is typically the spec. Reference in these radios is just a regular crystal.
