I'm hoping someone can help me out with a quick question. I looked for the info but couldn't find it.

I am going to be using an Icom IC-V8000 for APRS, connected to a Byonics TinyTrak 4 (Byonics -) that is connected to a Byonics GPS2 (Byonics - TinyTrak - GPS Receivers). I was looking at cables to connect these to the V8000 and noticed one of the cables has the option to power the TinyTrak through the mic jack but the Byonics website warns "Do NOT attempt to power a GPS from the TinyTrak3 when using this S version cable unless the mic jack can handle the current."

I couldn't find any information on whether or not the mic jack will be suitable to power the TinyTrak and the GPS.

The answer is on page 2 of the manual.

Pin 1 on the mic connector is +8VDC out, 10mA maximum.

According to the TT4 manual, the tracker itself draws 50mA.

If you are looking for a self-contained APRS tracker/radio/GPS, take a look at the RTrak (http://www.rpc-electronics.com/trackers.php). It only puts 500mW, but if you have good digi coverage, you should be OK. For a slightly less self-contained system, there's the T2-135 board (http://www.argentdata.com/products/tracker2.html) for the Alinco DR-135. The tracker board goes in the radio. The only external piece is the GPS receiver and Argent Data has small GPSs that can be powered from the data port on the Alinco. I have two T2-135s and I've been pretty happy with them.

OK, thank you for the quick answer. I already have the TinyTrak and the Icom so I'm already set, I just needed to get the cable. Thanks again.
