I recently picked up an Icom IC207H from a SK. SER # 12###. I did the mod to RX in the commercial band, & it does the full VHF, & UHF band very well. But there’s no way to get it to RX 800. But years ago I had the exact same radio with a SER # near 1000, & with the same mod it received 800 very well. Did the newer version delete the 800 band, or am I missing something to get it to receive 800? I know it’s an oldie, but I figure for traveling it’d be handy to listen to with the VFO mode which my XTL’s don’t have. I have no intention to transmit out of the ham band, as my XTL’s do that quite well.

It was definitely a 207H I had back in 01. Many Icom radios I had over the years had 800 RX, but the documentation never mentioned it. They’d even scan at 30 KHz which were the steps for the cell phone band before the Govt stopped that. Here’s the mod. Read the coverage after the mod. So I’m wondering if in the later 207’s 800 RX was deleted.

Remove the 4 screws ataching the bottom cover and remove the cover. (I had touse a small screwdriver to pry on the cover. It’s made to fit tight)with face toward you and belly up look to far right of board and close to youlocate a row of SMT diodes 3 on top then a shift to right and a few more. The three are in a PERFECT row top to bottom! count from the top of the row1 2 3. Remove the # 2 & 3 diodes. Now continue looking down from there andyou will see a resistor sticking up in the air (W14). Clip the lead off ofthe resistor. Reassemble the radio and preform a CPU reset by holding theSet and S.MW buttons while turning the radio on…(page 69 of manual).
You now will have :
118-135 RX (stock)136-174 TX & RX320-399 RX400-479 TX & RX849-950 RX
The Transmitter will work and transmit at ALL of the listed
This mod is easy to preform and takes about 10 minutes to accomplish.
