I need a little help trying to program a frequency range 156 to 174. Is that what’s referred to in the manual as a “scan edge” ?
I have the Icom ICR6 for a little over two years, great receiver, but I don’t have the programming software to do it. The manual is well written but I’m lost in all the programming functions.
Any quick suggestions or instructions will be welcome! Thank you

Yes, scanning between two frequencies is done by programming your scan edges as shown in the "Scan edges programming" section in the manual.

After programming a scan edge frequency pair, you'll probably want to do the steps in "Programming scan name" to set an easily recognizable name like "PD-VHF." (You only get six characters) Also see "Programming other contents" to set the mode and step of your frequency pair.

The scan edges I have programmed are in the attached image. Notice that 156 - 174 MHz in mine has the VHF police frequencies with a set step to pick up all of the assigned channels. These scan edges can be found by doing a search or looking for a Uniden scanner manual. It is listed in the back of most manuals.

To start the scan using the scan edges:
  • Get into VFO mode
  • Press and hold the Mode button
  • Select the scan edge list (Pnn)
  • Press the Mode button again

I use RT Systems software to program my R6. This was a splurge for me and worth it. The software calls the edge frequencies "Limit Memories."

Good luck. If you see anything incorrect as far as steps or the lower and upper frequency settings, please let me know.

Thanks,
Kelly

Hi, this is great, thank you so much for replying! Much appreciated. I will give this a try tomorrow and see what happens.
Thanks again, John

Hi John,

After looking at my R6, I have the marine channels programmed into memory locations as shown on this page: Maritime (United States) Scanner Frequencies and Radio Frequency Reference

It looks like the edge frequencies are 156.050 to about 162.0375 with some additional frequencies added. The step seems to be 50 kHz, but I'm not sure if that is constant between the frequencies. My Uniden radios that have service search have the marine frequencies programmed in memory locations and don't use edge frequencies.

And the attachment is very helpful.
Suggestion: I would only program 156.000 to 162.200 if you are only interested in VHF Marine Band channels. If you program 174.000 as your upper limit, scan time of the frequency block will be longer than it needs to be and may cause you to miss traffic.

Hi Kelly
Thank you for the additional info. And yes it’s the Marine frequency span I want to program. I did not realize when I first purchased my ICR6 that the Marine frequency range was already programmed. Since then I started saving random frequencies in that category and I overwritten about half or more. I think I’ll just purchase the software and cable to program it. But I will definitely try the instructions you sent me.
