I recently received a flyer from the W7AQ Radio Club in Yakima, Washington about their annual hamfest on April 16, 2005. The flyer advertised that ICOM and a few of their dealers were going to be present for the day.

I drove 200 miles to get to this hamfest, because I wanted check out the latest equipment ICOM had for sale, and possibly make an ICOM radio purchase.

I arrived at the hamfest early and found out that ICOM was not there. ICOM apparently had denied a scheduled local dealer their franchise (ALF Enterprises) because their yearly sales were supposedly $1,500 short of their annual sales goal. ALF is no longer an ICOM dealer and will not show up and any more hamfests.

Thanks for nothing ICOM!! YAESU has a new customer, ME!!!

He has point

When someone makes a promise, and then breaks. That really does not say much for the person breaking the promise. Maybe are not happy with ICOM, and need to go to another company?

I agreewith Jhooten. I have never heard of a ham radio dealer that only carried one brand of transmitter. Even if what the guy said was true, which I question, a real ham radio dealer would have other brands to sell. There have been attacks on Icom. It wouldn't surprise me if Lindsay didn't come in and say this is the same guy that has been using different names.

Treat first time whiners with great suspicicion.

Hardly

I think if you look at EHAM you will find that are alot of folks upset. I also doubt all of the complaints are from the same person. I would find that hard to believe one could write all those complaints!

Okay, I guess I am going to add to the tension here, but....

ICOM didn't fail to show up at the Ham Fest, the dealer failed to show up at the Ham Fest. When ICOM says they are coming somewhere, it is an ICOM team that shows up, not a dealer. Hell, ICOM will show up to a ham club with a little pre-planning, they are on the road quite a number of months a year. So, sadham7, if you want to be angry with anyone, be angry with ALF Ent. for failing to show, not ICOM.

With a little bit of searching, I am sure I can find examples of people who hate Kenwood, Yaesu, Motrola, GE, Ford, Chrysler, Chevy.... Anyway....

Gill, if Hamradiostuffing spends all of his time on the site at the ICOM forum, then naturally he would only comment in the ICOM forum, and your point was???

Let's try to remember that the idea of these fourms is to exchange ideas, information, etc.; not barbs. 8)

i just wonder if he is anti-icom and that is why he only comments on that subject. I just don't like people coming on and putting out a line of BS and then other people backing them up.

Dealer

Apparently ICOM promised to show up to the Hamfest with the dealer, and setup a ICOM booth from what the club apparently reported. The club flyer that was publised promised both the dealer and ICOM.

It also sounds like that a policy about posting my need to be developed for this board.

Hi guys,

Frankly I wouldn't take the prima facia remarks of the disgruntled Sadaam 7 too seriously. If Icom was supposed to attend the fester it's one thing but he was talking about a single disenfranchised dealer and that's the important part to consider.

Let's put this into perspective, the TV shop I ended up running a while back lost the Zenith franchise I worked so hard to get when sales fell off. So did everything else so we closed up shop after nearly 60 years like so many others who couldn't compete with Wally Mart and throwaway consumer mentality.

I won't venture a guess as to why the dealer didn't show up because the poster simply didn't give any pertinent information, only his personal opinion.

no no

Icom promised to show up to for this hamfest. Icom was there last year. Icom apprently sent saying that they were backing out. So do not dump this whole on the dealer. If you are not convinced then contact the W&aq club and find out.

i guess not

I guess it is not clear the ICOM also was suppose to be at the hamfest and did not show up. I do not think anyone was expecting ICOM give away any free radios to folks who showed up. Geez pay attention.

Folks where expecting ICOM because it was promised.
