From what I recall they did not go to Dayton last year, so I would not count on them attending any hamfests this year.
It looks to me like they are having problems figuring out how to make money on radios these days.
With the shrinking market of hams it is got to be really hard for a product manager inside of Icom to get the money required to develop a new radio.
If there is nothing new coming there is little reason to go to a hamfest to try to generate interest.
This sucks, but I can see why they are doing it...

ICOM was at Dayton in 2005. I remember the ICOM girls in pink bathrobes. They were in the same place as previous years, in the arena itself.

Did you get any photos of the girls? Were they from Japan or America?

I would not worry about it

I just sounds like an honest mistake. Icom was at the Seattle Hamfest last week, but there was not any dealers because of Washington Sales tax. So I would wait untill the Seapac Hamfest in Seaside Oregon.

You know, when you see what hamfests have deteriorated into these days, with all the garbage people bring, why in God's name would Icom show up? Dayton is worth it, but these local yokel fests...it ain't worth the money for them. Remember, ham radio sales make up a small portion of their sales.

Well I guess you are right the little hamfests do count since there are so many of them that have more people than Dayton when you add them all up. Besides Ham radio is dying anyway it is just matter of time.

The manufactuers have cut back to one display. They will only schedule major events. I was an officer in the Orlando Amateur Radio Club for several years and their HamCation always has all of the major manufactuers. The paid attendance for Saturday is about 7,000 people. It takes that type of turnout to make it profitable for the manufactuers. It costs a lot of money to build, ship, set up and then staff a display. These hamfests are just advertising for the manufactuers as most of them do not sell radios to the public.

Small hamfests have also been hurt by internet sales. All of the major sellers have websites and are doing a lot of buisness on line. I don't even bother going to tailgating. There is a lot of over priced junk. The major hamfests usually draw several of the large dealers and you can go back and forth getting them to beat the others prices. Give me new over used any day.
