There really isn't a 'final pick' for any antenna on a radio. It's very much dependent on what you want to hear, what is your budget and the environment around the antenna itself. You've said it's going into an attic - is there a lot of Romex out there? What about air vents and shafts? And how about the outside - have you got aluminum siding and a roof with metal in the soffets and facia? All of this is going to play a role. Do you know how to properly solder a connection?
There are many possibilities, and one that works for one individual might not work for another for the above reasons. Loops are certainly a popular choice (but quite pricey), but you can do very well with wire antennas, too. For example when I had a rather large attic, I put a wire loop up there that was about 25 foot square and fed it to the switchbox shown in the
Carpet Loop. It was used with a TenTec RX-320 and worked extremely well. You could make an attic loop by winding wire around the perimeter of the attic and feeding it with a 9:1 transformer, sometimes called a magnetic longwire balun. But that's only 1 of a myriad of possibilities. Some have put the
PAR EF-SWL antenna up nice and high in the attic - that too could work
So let's have some answers. What do you want to hear? Tell us some more about your attic...
I'm having this moved to our HF antennas forum, since that's what is being discussed here.
