Hello,

I am now an owner of a brand new Icom R1500 receiver. This is, and will be, a steep learning curve for me but I'm looking forward to the challenge. It just arrived here yesterday, and I have it up and running doing some basic direct entrys of frequencies, testing out the multi monitor screen (This is a nice feature!), and some searching. I am reading the manual, trying to find some answers to stuff, but I'd like to post a question or two here.

1- While searching, say VHF-Hi, or any range, is there a way to set it to decode the PL/DPL of the frequency it is receiving? I know a frequency can have the PL/DPL decoded if I'm holding on it, but can it be set to decode on the fly?

2- Also during a search, when a paging frequency or other annoying (digital) frequency is received, is there a way to just lock it out? I don't see a lockout button on the display screen.

3- Is/are there any Yahoo groups for this receiver? I will search this but if anyone knows of one off the top of their head it's appreciated.

4- Would I need to do a firmware upgrade on this, since it's brand new? Unsure when the latest update was made available.

I've been in the scanning hobby for about 4 or 5 years now, and have good knowledge of the better scanners out there (owned both Uniden and RS/GRE digitals) but made the move to this receiver for my main love of this hobby, DX'ing. This is one incredible box!

Thanks for any information!

My firmware is the latest version, and I just joined the Yahoo group for the R1500. Thanks for the help, Mike.

Well,

I have answered some of my original questions, but still need some help on one. When searching a band, can the software be set to search for the PL/DPL of the frequency being heard AND display it? I have read, and re read, the manual, and if this is possible I just can't figure out how to accomplish this. Thanks for any assistance.
