The R6 is a great little receiver. I hope they keep it around. I've always wanted an R20 but never have bit the bullet and gotten one.

Interesting to see the R20 is discontinued. Hopefully Icom has something else in the pipeline.

Believe it or not, parted with the R20 and hung onto the R6 here. Just too much stuff going digital in the area. I really, really hope that if Icom comes out with another receiver, that at the very least, it will be able to receive P25. Not holding my breath, though!

It would be nice to see the old major manufacturers come out with some SDR technology. I wonder if Icom would go that route? I've always been partial to their receivers over the years. I'd think they'd have to consider something along that route if they were to continue to produce receive only devices.

Alinco DJ-X11

Has anyone ever played with the SDR in the Alinco DJ-X11?

I have a DJ-X11 along with the EDC-174, EDS-12, and ERW-8.

There aren't too many portable receivers on the market that have an IQ output.

Primary antennas consist of an AOR LA390 magnetic loop and a Diamond SRH999 whip, but I use other antennas as well - including a Wellbrook ALA1530 loop, known locally as "the hula hoop in the Living Room window". :)

As purchased, the radio was running firmware 2.40. I immediately updated to the current version 2.60 firmware.

I use the radio with a variety of application software including Alinco's Clone Utility and Control Panel programs.

Some other programs that I use include KG-SDR and KG-TONE.

KG-SDR (English)

KG-TONE (Japanese)

The author of KG-SDR and KG-TONE has written some other interesting software as well (use Google Translate if you happen not to be fluent in the Japanese language).

I also use Duncan Munro's M0KGK SDR Decoder (KGKSDR) program.
