Icom R20 has gone completely deaf.

I've had my Icom R20 for a couple weeks now and overall
it has been a good receiver.Until today,when I turned it on,
I could receive nothing but static.The receiver was sitting in the same
place all day,with nothing around that would have caused any harm to it.

I've been using the same antenna ,a Diamond RH77CA.I have not used any mobile or base type antenna,which I've read could overload the receiver.


Any idea why the receiver would just suddenly go completely deaf?

did you try doing a reset?

I was just about to do a reset today when I got home from work,turned
on the R-20 and all of a sudden it was alive again.No idea what happened,why it went deaf for a few hours but it's working now so
I guess that's all that matters.

Well I spoke too soon.Had turned the receiver off for a second
turned it back on and now it's completely deaf again.I reset it
but still the same problem.I think i just have a defective one.

Try the reset and then program something like NOAA weather to test it. If nothing and you bought it new- send it back. If you bought it used, I have no idea what might be involved in repairing or trouble shooting it.

Try fresh batteries, or powering it from the AC adaptor.
