Hi and thanks for letting me join, please can you offer advice why I can not tune in to 5875KHz mode set to AM ( newbie operator ). Scanner works fine with air bands including military?
Am I inputting the numbers incorrectly?
Many thanks in advance .

I don’t remember if I had to enter the frequency as kilohertz, 5875, or megahertz, 5.875 on my R20, but it may be simply entering the frequency in the correct format.

You need to enter it as 5.875 on the R20 and you have to be on the MAIN band of the radio (the SUB band does not receive the HF band).
Normally, longer the antenna the bigger the signal on HF.
Love the R20!

My house has foil coated roof sheathing, so indoor antennas are not an option for me either. I use an off center fed dipole and it works great on all bands: Buckmaster OCF Dipole Antenna
A Welbrook loop antenna also works extremely well:
