Its a great receiver. Wish they made a desktop version.
One could hope but I think Icom is going to ride their current product offerings for a few more years.

What’s left for them to bring to the market?

Their receiver lineup is pretty good especially when you compare them to AOR. Better value and less quirks/hardware issues.

DMR and maybe TETRA decoding would be nice but unlikely with Icom’s position on DMR and TETRA’s very small footprint here in North America.

I’ve said it before but I would love a PC/Smartphone controlled R30 “black box”. Something in the same vein as the PCR-1500/PCR-2500.

I am really enjoying mine. As I saw another user post here, it is my scanner for everything non-trunked. Its receiver is a bit more sensitive than a regular scanner and I find the quality of the audio to be better on analog and much better on P25 than the regular mainstream scanner brands. I mainly bought it for used on railroad frequencies when the switch to NXDN is finally done. I tried many different antennas and if you scan the VHF hi and UHF Lo (150's and 450's) often then I highly recommend the Comet HT-55 antenna. After experimenting with over a dozen HT antennas I find the Comet HT-55 to be the best for pulling in signals in those two business bands without resorting to a mobile or outdoor antenna.
