I have an r7100 receiver that I can send commands to useing most cat software however I am not getting anything back from the receiver. If I push a mode button or change freqs on the rig I dont get anything back to the program. However if I change modes or freq in the program it shows up on the rig. I have a service mannual for the receiver and can follow the schematic but cant figure out what whould block the feed back data from the rig. If there is someone here who understands the civ circuit in this rig perhaps you could give me some clues?

Icom comm's

Have you tried a terminal program like procomm + in echo mode to watch the response, maybe its the fault of your program or the setting of the Icom R-7100 comm configuration.

Just a thought...

Have you looked into the 7100s CIV setup and make sure that the "Transceive" function is on.
This sure sounds like your problem to me.
