Of course it is! Didn't the R30 go for around $550!?! So they want a receiver that has half the functionality for $112 less!?! That better out receive everything with excellent selectivity. It does not even go to 512MHZ - nope.

Has anyone noticed the frequency gaps that the official site shows for this radio, this is what I copied:
一般仕様
周波数範囲
Aバンド/
Bバンド
108.000~253.795MHz
255.000~261.995MHz
266.000~270.995MHz
275.000~380.195MHz
381.325~411.995MHz
414.400~500.000MHz
Some pretty wide gaps in areas, would be a no go for me since I have activity in some of those areas :(

Those frequency gaps may be specific to the Japanese/Asian market.

Don't expect them to be present in the American version of the IC-R15.

I will be buying this radio😁...

I agree, this receiver was never intended as a spinoff of the ICR30. It is clearly being marketed for individuals who like to monitor air band, railroads and whatever can be heard in the advertised frequency range. There is rumor though that Icom is planning a replacement for the ICR30 & ICR6, but who knows for sure.

That's my interest in the IC-R15, military aviation😀...
