The export version of the U82 is rated tx of 420 to 476 if I remember correctly. About the same as for the F43 radios. How good they are that far from the ham band I don't know. There is an Icom site somewhere that lists these radios. It could be the main Icom site under land mobile.

Hi David,

I managed to get a great deal on an Icom IC-U82 on Ebay a while back.
At first I was very sceptical as to it's out of band performance, as some Icom's I have owned go very deaf when +/- 5Mhz outside of the design bandwidth.
Must admit I was very pleasantly surprised with the IC-U82. It's receive sensitivity is very good all over its range- which is good for 400-479Mhz. Works great for 430-450Mhz which is what I wanted it for. Up at 476-477Mhz, it is comparable to my IC-40S but has the ability to be keypad programmable. It will TX anywhere within the RX range very well indeed, mine will produce 4.5watts into a dummy load at 477Mhz.

It is possibly for this reason that the IC-U82 has not been released locally by Icom- due to potential for abuse. Strangely enough, the IC-V82 is available here and can also wideband easily.
It seems the country is being flooded with cheap Chinese widebanded radio's, I would rather spend the extra and buy an Icom!

Regards, Commscanaus.

And it's just as illegal to use on UHF CB as the chinese radios :)
