Have a Uniden PCD996P2 which I have downloaded the motorola trunking sites I want to scan using ProScan. How in the H do I set my scanner to ID Scan? I cannot figure this thing out even by searching google.

Thanks for the help.

to toggle between the two, or in English, to change from one to the other...
when scanning the system,

HIT THE FUNCTION BUTTON, AND THEN THE SCAN BUTTON.

You must be scanning when you do that on the scanner. It will make the change on the system you are currently scanning. Each system can be set to ID Scan or ID Search.

All that comes up when I do this is quick search? Yes / No.

Refer to my previous post. You must be scanning to make the change between ID Scan and ID Search. You cannot be holding on a talkgroup.

you have to be ON THAT SYSTEM when doing that.
what the quick search thing means is that it was on a conventional system

From your description, it sounds like you are hitting the Enter key, not the Function button. Hitting the Enter key (labeled E/yes), while holding on a conventional frequency or talkgroup, will bring up the quick search screen.

The Function 'key' on the 996P2 is accessed by pressing the large scroll knob. You might be hitting the Enter key in error. That key is at the bottom of the column of keys just to the left of the Scroll knob.

Which is better? I thought I read that ID Search was the better option when listening.

ID Scan will monitor what you have programmed in the radio for a trunked system...
ID Search will monitor everything it can hear on that trunked system...
But No Text Naming... It should show up as Unknown if it hears something not programmed in the radio...
If you find something else on that trunked system you want to monitor, you have to add it then, so you have the text to identify it...

Negative. I am hitting the function button. I downloaded the Motorola trunking frequencies from here, but I just can’t seem to find or search them. I’m a real newbie to this trunking stuff.

How do I get to that system? I can scroll through all my conventional programming, but can’t find the Motorola trunking system anywhere. I’m feeling rather dumb here.

ok, now for the 'longer' method,
1. turn on the scanner, or if already on skip all the way to step 2.
step 2. hit menu.
3. it should be on program system, hit yes.
4. scroll to the trunked system that you want do change, hit yes.
5. scroll to edit sys option, hit yes.
6. scroll to id scan/search, hit yes
7. switch it to which one you want.
8. hit the scan button
9. that was it, there is no step 9.
10. you should have stopped reading this and be using your radio.
11. sorry about my sense of humor, but i am worse in person.

So I followed all these steps, including #11, and scanner just returned to my conventional scanning when I hit scan.

Turned off the conventional band I was scanning, refollowed steps, says nothing to scan.
