Function + enter
That's not applicable to the HP-2. There is no Function key.

Would someone, please tell me how too program ID search.

For your HP-2 with the Extreme Upgrade:
Press Menu
At the next screen, press Advanced Menu
Next screen, choose Advanced Option
Next, choose Edit Favorites Lists
Next, choose the Favorites list that includes the system you want to change,
Next, select the system
Next, select Edit Systems Options
The next screen has the line where you can set that specific system to ID Search or ID Scan,

For the one without the Extreme Upgrade:
You cannot make the change on the scanner itself, but you can do that in Sentinel.
Start Sentinel
Select the Favorites list that has the system you want to change
Using either the drop down Edit Menu, or the icon (star with a pencil over it, under the lower case (end) "v" in View, start the Favorites List Editor
In the edit window, click on the name of the system you need to change.
The setting to toggle between ID Search & ID Scan is on the Options tab for the system
Make your change, save the changes, and then write the updated list to the scanner.

Woah that is a long process to do a simple task like that.
True. But the HP-1 & -2 are targeted toward a group with less technical knowledge than many of the members here. Enter your location & zip code, select what types of things you want to hear, then let the scanner do everything else.

That being said, these are good 'listening' scanners. You can tailor them however you want in Sentinel, and properly set up, they are excellent receivers. Sensitivity (with a good antenna) compares well to other, more feature rich, scanners. And by far, they do have the best displays of any scanner.

Start Sentinel
Edit the applicable Favorites List (containing the system you want to ID Search)
Highlight the System by mouse clicking on the System Name in the left pane
Once highlighted, then click on the Options tab in the right pane
Look for a drop down box labeled "ID Search"
Click on that box so that it becomes "On"
Save and Exit the Favorites List Editor
Program the revised Favorites List to the scanner

I probably should have added that you can only set a system that is in a Favorites list to ID Search. If scanning via location & the main database (not using a Favorites list), you cannot change between ID Search & ID Scan.
