OK here is my issue i have a nx -200
programed on 155.010 simplex ran of one set at 6.25
i have encryption type 2 turned on key id of zero


Ok i also have ic f3161s programed the same was only there is no spot for type
2 enc or key id now the icom talks to the kenwood but the kenwood wont decode enc from the icom HELP

Looks like your ICOM is analog only, you need the 3161D, you said here you have S version. Not IDAS

This radio has the digital board and works in normal nxdn just not when we enable enc

I've had problems with using encryption between Icom and Kenwood. Programmed same encryption keys, same slots, etc for both manufacturers' radios. Encryption between Icoms works fine, and between Kenwood models works fine, but I haven't successfully been able to talk between the two. Maybe both manufacturers did something a little different?

I was just about to post a very similar question just now, so I'm glad I checked out the forums first... I rarely get into the iCom group, but I have an iDAS F3161D that I'm trying to get to talk to Kenwood with encryption enabled.

From what I can tell, the Kenwood gives you about 16 key capacity, and the iCom software 63. I noticed the key ID values in the Kenwood software goes up to 63 as well, giving me the impression that the key ID is the key number. Seems straight forward, but it's not.

Something is different, even though the key values on both range from 1-32767 . These technologies were meant to be interoperable/compatable, right?
