Hi There

Disclaimer - I'm not a radio operator, but I do work with audio. Can any one here illuminate my situation??

About 3 weeks ago the subwoofer in my audio setup ( a B&W Unit, good gear ) started sounding a buzzing 'signal' about twice a day. It is not random ( is it morse code?) and occurs around 2pm and 7pm ( maybe more often but I'm not around to hear it! ) and lasts for 3 -10 minutes always ending with three long bursts. Then nothing. It stops. No noise or pops.

The subwoofer is picking the signal up by itself... removing cabling has no effect. I've had the speaker for many years, nothing like this has ever happened before.

I've made a rudimentary recording of the signal ( I missed the start.. ) and produced a spectrograph for your amusement. Anyone interested can download them here

I'd love to hear some opinions about what it might be, or even better, an explanation! Is it from the future???? ;-))

Sounds like 60Hz. I would suspect a failing power supply either in the subwoofer or nearby.
Might be other things, but if that's CW, it's pretty bad.

If it happens at the same time every day, I'd also start looking for things on timers that are doing this. Pumps, ventilation, sprinklers, etc.

Sounds (to me) like Morse coming through the woofers maybe from 160 meters. When I used to talk on 160, the sound would come out of my computer woofers (still does). If you have an amateur radio or a radio that receives 1.8 to 2.0 MHz see if you hear the same on the radio at those times listed. Probably, maybe, could be an amateur learning Morse in your vicinity maybe from next door to about 1.5 miles away unless the ham is using an amp...
Good Luck and 73!

Thanks for the replies.
I've moved the subwoofer around the house, on different circuits, no power strip etc. Still does it! Def gonna spy around the neighborhood for antennas!
Also need to take it somewhere else in a distant location and see if it does it there.
I want to believe it is Russian spies or supernatural, but as mmkenna said, it's probably just a power filter failing. ;-)
