Many nights from down here in Maryland I can hear EMS dispatches on 155.175 [118.8 PL]. Every call I hear on that freq is for medical situations in and around the casinos in Atlantic City. However, the database shows that freq and PL tone belong to Hammonton Fire. Does Hammonton have a substation in Atlantic City? From the map, it appears Hammonton is about 20 miles or more from Atlantic City and it doesn't seem reasonable to dispatch from that far away for medical emergencies. Can anyone explain this for me?

Per the FCC Database, that frequency is licensed to Atlantic City, along with Hammonton, Margate, Longport, Ventnor and a couple of other towns in the Atlantic City area. In checking the Atlantic City Trunked System on the RR database, I see no talk groups for EMS for Atlantic City. So I am thinking maybe their EMS isn't on the trunked system, but rather on 155.175. As for the PL, it may be possible they use the same as Hammonton. This is just a thought on my part. I don't monitor Atlantic City or Atlantic County and don't know anything about the system except for the info posted on the database.

155.175 is the Atlantic Co EMS dispatch freq common to all agencies regardless if they have an FCC lic. You don't see an EMS TG listing on the Atl Co TRS system because each squad on that system has it's own TG and Atlantic City is not on that system. All ALS medic units are dispatched on 155.175 (they also have 800 TRS TGs assigned). Atlantic City is on its own Mot TRS system and the AC EMS TG simils the entire county's 155.175 so you can hear dispatchs from the complete other side of the county on the Atlantic City system. Now that I said all that...the paid FDs that operate EMS transport: Brigantine, Ventnor, Margate & Pleasantville all operate on their own "fire" freq or TG. You will hear EMS calls on the ACFD TG only if an engine is assigned as a first responder or a ladder as a "medical lift assist". And you will most likely never hear an engine/ladder assigned to a casino medical call since they all have in house medical staffs.

Good info. Thanks guys, it's appreciated. So, from all that information, I guess it's the in-house owned/contracted medical services for the casinos that I'm hearing on 155.175.

DJ88, I see you're in Ocean County. I also often hear your system on 155.205 from here. When either of those systems - 155.205 or 155.175 - are heard, they don't whisper their way in here, they come booming in.

That's pretty amazing, especially the Monmouth County EMS dispatch 155.175. When conditions are right here, where I am, I can hear Suffolk County (Long Island) EMS dispatch on 155.280, CSQ. It sounds like the dispatcher is right in my back yard. The combination of weather and how radio waves travel is pretty amazing. That's what makes this hobby so enjoyable.

CLARIFICATION: What I said was you most likely won't hear a ACFD engine/ladder go to a casino as a "first responder" because the casinos have inhouse medical staff. What you will hear is BLS/ALS dispatch to casinos because the casinos do not transport patients.
