I thought Alpine Rescue was based in Clear Creek and Summit Counties?

Do we suppose this was one of the 457 kHz models?

The news story contains errors. The PLB is a current model and has a 12 ch GPS receiver and does xmit digital position data. It xmits digital data on 406.xxx Mhz. They cost around $550 each. The sidebar about avalanche beacons makes the story even more confusing. People need to register their PLB's to avoid repeat problems like this.

I agree, but expect that effort to be even less successful than getting people using GMRS/FRS blister-packed radios to acquire FCC licenses before TXing on GMRS channels.
