As you can see, I am not interested in digital, just trunking. Any suggestions on where to buy it? And what external antenna would you use on the house?

Alpha Display is priceless. Handheld can work just as well indoors as mobile or handheld.

Easy computer interface for programming. IMHO an intuitive interface when using the scanner controls.

However get 2500mAh rechargable NIMH batteries. The two AA battery limit in the scanner will eat batteries for lunch.

Close call for acquiring new signals when you don't know the frequency.

It also looks like you are looking for a base/mobile package as opposed to a portable. The problem with the choices you have are the 780XLT and 785D are not available as new products, you will have to buy them used. The other two do not have alpha tags for the channels. Non-Digital capable, base type scanners, with alpha tagging, are going to be tough to find.

I like the RadioShack PRO-2067, I just wish it had more channels. I know nothing about Uniden scanners, so that pretty much just makes this post useless.

I would wait for the Pro-2055 to come out (should be released soon). It has 1000 channels, alpha tags, trunking, and much more. It is basically the mobile version of the Pro-97. Also the scantenna from antenna warehouse is a pretty good antenna. It comes with 50' of coax. It works really good on VHF-High. Can't comment on 800 mhz distance because I only live a mile or two from the only trunked system in the area, so it comes in clear.

Also, the best dealer around..... www.scannersunlimited.com Glenn (the owner) is a first class guy who can answer any questions you have. Give him a call, he told me he would have the Pro-2055 when it comes out.

The 780 has an excellent reputation for MilAir and display, but I would likely go with one of the other models due to rebanding. See the rebanding thread for details.

I wouldn't use any external antenna in the house. (other than a mobile mag mount on a filing cabinet or something like that).
