Hey everyone, and happy holidays,

I currently have a 996t, and want to purchase a scanner with p25 phase two capabilities , what I wondered
is has uniden overcome most of the glitches with their 536hp and also wondered if any of you have purchased hp-2,

I would like to purchase one of the two scanners but was a little apprehensive to spend the money and end up having issues

So if it were any of you what would you suggest ?

Any help will be greatly appreciated? and thank you in advance

I don't have a 536. I have an HP 2 though. I really like it. Does well in my area on Phase I and Phase II. I had the same thoughts going into the HP 2 purchase. But I'm glad I made the choice to buy it.

What glitches? The 536 is much more like the 996 than the HP-2, so I would say the 536 is much closer of an upgrade. It also has a NFM filter while I don't think the HP-2 does, so it would work better in urban environments. The touchscreen of the HP-2 is nice, but the Quick Keys of the x36 make it much better for mobile use.

By glitches I just meant any bugs that may exist I thought I read where some of the early models had to be sent back due to a headphone plug issue and didn't know if all of the new units have had the correction made

For that issue, all dealer stock was recalled, and those with units were offered a fix at no charge. While it's impossible to say there are not units out there with the issue, a dealer unit should not have it.

I've had a 536 since early 2014, which works well. The only major disappointment is that the Siren wifi app (which is supposed to permit remote monitoring and control) is not yet available (nearly a year after the unit was released), which was the main reason I chose it.

Supposedly the app is in beta testing. You can find extended discussion of this issue on the Uniden forum. If you don't need the app, want better portability, or don't have faith that the app will ever materialize, the 436 might be a better choice, since it offers the ability to operate from an internal battery along with essentially the same features excluding the Siren app.

Speaking of batteries, there is one design flaw in the 536 that you should be aware of. The battery that is supposed to maintain date and time apparently has a very limited capacity. If you leave the scanner powered off for more than a few days, you will probably have to reset the date/time when you turn it on, which is a hassle.

I am broadcasting one of the Wichita Scanners with a 436hp. Before I started providing I used to take it on trips with me to KC and even out of state. It works well even with just the standard antenna.
