Hello again everyone. as a side note, someone told me the ifb for wpvi was last heard on 455.2375. Sometimes it was on and sometimes it was off. They said Nothing has been heard on that frequency since may 2014. Can anyone confirm if this is the true ifb frequency? If so, did wpvi change the frequency?

The best thing do would be try to confirm the above frequency. Other members here that are in the Philly area will probably do this as well just because that is what we do. Post ant info here and lets see where we end up. My bet is someone will find what you are looking for. Good luck and have fun!

Thank you everyone for helping. 455.2375 is operated by wpvi tv and it runs out of Trenton nj just like the information said. I don't know if it is possible but maybe if someone from the station just turned the frequency on and left it on we would figure it out. But i don't know how that would happen. lol. I believe that 455.2375 is the ifb frequency but have not heard it for months. It turns on and off at weird times. Any theories as to why that may happen?

I would like other readers of this thread to please comment and help me out if you could. i have two questions. I am still trying to figure out if somehow there would be a way so we could have wpvi tv turn on 455.2375. what does everyone think? That is their IFB i am almost sure. I actually heard the newscast on that frequency a few nights ago. Then it disappeared. my second question is Could someone on this site please tell me why the frequency will come on one night and then not be on for several months? it's verry annoying. Thanks in advance for any help from anyone that could help me answer the two questions.

Simple Answer : They turn it on when "THEY" need it, not for the listening enjoyment of scannists.

Here is another thing that confuses me. For wcau tv nbc 10, everytime their chopper skyforce10 is live over breaking news the wcau IFB comes on. But whenever wpvi channel 6 has chopper 6 live over breaking news 455.2375 is rarely ever on. But when i do hear it it is at random times. another thing i should probably tell you is that when 455.2375 is on and i hear wpvi's newscasts they allways switch the frequency off during the breaks but then it comes back on when they resume their broadcasts. I am so confused by this frequency.

Hi again. Just heard something on the wpvi chopper 6 frequency i have. The guy from wpvi asked the chopper to give him channel 4 out of roxborough. What frequency is that? Could that be their other IFB? I am determined to find their ifb frequency. Hopefully you guys can continue to help me.

IFB is so on air talent in the field can hear the broadcast and cues from the director. You don't hear the commercials because it is not a feed of the actual off-air signal, but a separate feed from the control room only. Many stations still have their citywide IFB frequency available, but don't use it all that often. It can be done via a phone or from the microwave truck or sat truck if the RF feed is less than perfect. . Additionally many stations are going to an embedded VOIP system for liveshots, where IFB comes back to the field down the VOIP feed.
I'm not in Philly so can't comment on potential other freq...but deal with IFB everyday at work...

Just re-read your last post. A station engineer talking to the chopper about changing freq, probably means put their onboard microwave on a different channel for a better signal. They have remote microwave receivers all over the area, and many are multi channel.

Thanks everyone for your help in this continued effort. One or wpvi's frequencies is 455.0875. I think that was another possibility where I thought I could hear the newscast audio but it is dead. So menny wpvi frequencies have nothing on them. Can anyone give me some frequencies that might be a possibility where the audio feed or ifb) for wpvi might be located? Has anyone out there heard the wpvi newscast audio on any other frequencies than 455.2375?

As a previous poster stated, it is entirely possible that WPVI (and others) are using 1) microwave relays (in the GHz range, which, without special equipment, and being located in the path of the relay, you're not going to receive); 2) satellite relays (also in the GHz range, and unless you have one of the old C-/Ku-band big dish satellite receivers which *May Or May Not* allow you to catch them or others on what is called a 'wildfeed', you're not going to hear them); or 3) via VOIP, or Voice Over Internet Protocol, which means you're not going to hear them.

Other than possibly catching a wildfeed with a big dish satellite system as I mentioned above, it's entirely possible that you *Will Not* hear them on any regular schedule. The HF, VHF-High and UHF IFB frequencies are used when they need to use them, and not so that we can eavesdrop in on them. Some stations use them all the time. Some stations use them intermittently. And some stations rarely, if ever, use them.

(Yes, I mentioned HF. A local station in Phoenix uses a frequency in the 25.870-26.470 MHz range. I caught it using my PSR-500's Signal Stalker mode at a special event back in January, where a microwave truck was set up.)

Thanks everyone for your help. I don't know when i will hear the wpvi audio on 455.2375. like someone stated on here before, channel 6 uses the frequency only when they have to. So, i need everyone's thoughts. Should I check the frequency while wpvi is on the air during each newscast every day to see if I hear the newscast audio? And if I don't hear anything it means they are not on that frequency that day? Is that correct? Also if anyone out there hears the wpvi newscast audio, on any other frequency please put it on this thread if you can so I know what frequency to check out.
