Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I have an XTL5000 dash mount w/ O5 control head that I'm trying to move from one of our department vehicles to another. One problem I found when trying to reprogram it is that it is set to ignition sense only. Or at least I thought it was. I thought it was set to ignition only but it was set to blank. I reprogrammed it to soft power down but it still won't power up when the power button is pressed unless the ignition wire is connected. Is there something else in the software I'm missing?

So, DID you connect the IGN Sense wire from the radio to the IGN circuit in the vehicle?

The Soft Power Off selection requires the ignition sense wire be connected. As I describe it to my users:
1. Radio comes on with the ignition
2. The power button will control the radio while the ignition is present
3. The radio powers down when the vehicle is turned off

The Blank selection does not require the ignition sense be connected and the radio is controlled by the power switch. This may be the selection you are looking for if you don't have the sense wire connected. I don't use this due to radios being left on and draining batteries.

You have your main power hooked to continuous 12volt, correct??

Dashmount setups require the accessory-plug on the back of the radio be connected to a 12 volt power source as well. You can run the red and yellow wire to a constant power source if you choose to do so. That will let you turn the radio on by the power button on the head. But as others have stated, no matter how you program it, the accessory wires still need 12 volts for the radio to operate.

I think you meant remote mount setup.

Again, because there seems to some confusion.

If the radio is programmed for Soft Power Off. You do not need 12 volts on the accessory connector.

Radio powers on with ignition present or with radio power button press.
Radio powers on when ignition is removed or radio power button press.

In your CPS software, click on ? mark and then click on Ignition Switch setting box. The software will bring up a help menu describing what all the settings do.

To the OP, it sounds like it is set for "required" and not "SoftPowerOff".

Are you using latest Firmware??
