Im a old 70s CB guy with Radio Interest.

I was about 16 when I got involved in CB radio way back in the 70s.
My first CB was a old green tube Spitfire (Wish I still had that radio)
I remember it like it was yesterday, met alot of friends back then.
I was not afraid of heights and I ended up putting up alot of towers and beams back then, event 70 or 80 '
Anyway Im thinking I would like to get my amateur license to atleast opperate a 2 meter radio.

Heres my question ...How long on average does it take the average person to study and pass the exam?

Aslo where do I begin?
Im near Fergus and Guelph

Anyway thanks for any tips on this.

I think many here started in a similar fashion, that is ,great that there is interest in the hobby once again there are many resources available to become a ham.
Firstly I would look here Radio Amateurs of Canada
You can also try speaking to a ham neighbour that might have an antenna collection on his property, I know this time of year when there are swap meets, you can go and meet others and see what if any nearby clubs around with classes.Good luck its a great hobby.

Thanks guys for all tthe links and tips.

From what I understand in Canada it starts with a Basic Qualification: an examination of 100 questions.

That will get me up and running , and no morse code unless i want to upgrade.

I do know basic electricty and a little of the electronics ,just from interest in the past.

Kitchener/Waterloo is a little further down the road, Im hoping theres a club in Guelph or Fergus.
Maybe I can buy the study book online and start there for now.

Im not too clear on this, but I just heard that some other advanced ham guys could give me the test after I study

Dan, the first thing you should learn is the following....
Don't pluralize 73!! The term is 73 NOT 73s......
73 is a morse code (cw) term meaning "best regards"
There's no such thing as "best regards's"
It's kind of similar to when your waitress says "how are yous guys today?"
Just saying.....
