After purchasing a new laptop which has Windows 7 Pro, my ARC-XT Pro downloaded and displayed systems and groups much differently than it had with Windows XP. ProScan has proven to be very reliable with my 996XT, 396XT and 15X. After exchanging emails with BuTel, they didn't seem to care that ARC-XT Pro wasn't a good choice for the Uniden 15X. ProScan even knows which features each model scanner has! So my money went to ProScan.

While I don't plan on streaming the scanner audio or remotely controling the scanner from the internet, ProScan has those features for when I need them.

I used to use the ARC software for both my 396T and 996T. When I bought my 396XT, I knew I would need something else. I tried ProScan and have never used ARC (Awful Radio Crap) Software since. Bob's support for ProScan is by far the best. Also he doesn't have a scam going on where you have to get a different version for each model.

ARC (Awful Radio Crap) Software

 Good one! I'm not a fan of Butel's junk either. I submitted a number of bugs with ARC160 months ago, and his reply was a lame "Thanks, we will take a look at this next time we update ARc160". Needless to say, I won't be holding my breath since the 160/162 series weren't very popular and I'm sure the demand for the software is pretty low. I guess since he already has my $30, who cares if the software is buggy or not. Unfortunately for the 160/162 series, Butel is the only game in town. When my PSR-410 comes tomorrow, you can bet your life that Don Starr will be the one getting my hard earned money, not Butel. And of course it's also really nice to have FreeSCAN for the Uniden models, a great piece of software in its own right, made all the better by the fact that it costs absolutely nothing.
