I have been gone for a bit but I am back. I have been through a few vehicles since my Tahoe but I have found what fits my needs quite well. I am a stay at home dad now. I am building my Jeep to be a well rounded vehicle for travel and adventure. We make trips to Chicago a couple times a year as well as to Littlerock. I also do some camping and plan to start making some expedition style trips in the future especially as my daughter gets older.
My Jeep is a 2005 Grand Cherokee 4x4. It has a 2 inch daystar lift, 2010 Rubicon wheels with 31 inch tires, Surco roof rack which has 2 rear lights and will eventually get 4 front lights and probably two light off of each side. It also has an ARB on board air compressor and tank.
Currently I have installed a RAM laptop stand which I mounted a port replicator for my Toughbook CF-72 on. I have a MR350 GPS puck for it which I have just sitting in the Jeep right now. I haven't decided if I want to drill any holes in it yet. I have used it a few times and seems to work great even with it sitting under the front passenger seat.
I plan to build a cabinet in the back to store recovery equipment and other things in. This is the card board mock up I built for it.
I worked on this a bit today. I mounted my scanner in the dash. I am going to make a shroud out of some thin sheet metal. I am going to cover the back and sides and extend it past the scanner some to act as a sun shade. I will probably wrinkle paint it.. not sure how I will finish it yet. I will rivet it to the plastic dash piece.
I will be taking my HAM test tomorrow. So long as I pass I will be ordering my Kenwood TH-D72A tomorrow or Tuesday. That will be my only one for the time being. I am going to order a few NMO mounts that attach to the roof rack (2m, 70cm and a multi-band for my scanner most likely) so I don't have to drill any holes right now. I may decide to drill later on but for now I am not. Once I get money for a mobile I will be ordering a TM-D710A
