Sorry to resurrect this thread after a few weeks of quiet but I did want to ask if you've had time to check the reception range of the Larsen 150/450/800 antenna. Since I like to scan the local air frequencies, too (122Mhz) I'd like to know if it goes down that low or if I'd have issues receiving them. I like the look of this antenna, it's length, and think I could mount it on the rear lift gate of my Pathfinder using the Diamond K400 lip mount, assuming it would receive everything I'd like it to.

Thanks for your time and I look forward to seeing the other pictures you spoke of as well.

I haven't loaded any air band in but I will load some to see how they sound. It works great on the 144 ham band. I have been working on the jeep a bit. I got my make shift over head console in which came out pretty good. Not quite as clean as I hoped but not to bad. We have been fighting the flu at my house the last week so I haven't been up to it the last few days. I will try to get some up in the next day or so.

Take care and get you and the family over the flu!

Nice job!

I have been gone for a bit but I am back. I have been through a few vehicles since my Tahoe but I have found what fits my needs quite well. I am a stay at home dad now. I am building my Jeep to be a well rounded vehicle for travel and adventure. We make trips to Chicago a couple times a year as well as to Littlerock. I also do some camping and plan to start making some expedition style trips in the future especially as my daughter gets older.

My Jeep is a 2005 Grand Cherokee 4x4. It has a 2 inch daystar lift, 2010 Rubicon wheels with 31 inch tires, Surco roof rack which has 2 rear lights and will eventually get 4 front lights and probably two light off of each side. It also has an ARB on board air compressor and tank.

Currently I have installed a RAM laptop stand which I mounted a port replicator for my Toughbook CF-72 on. I have a MR350 GPS puck for it which I have just sitting in the Jeep right now. I haven't decided if I want to drill any holes in it yet. I have used it a few times and seems to work great even with it sitting under the front passenger seat.

I plan to build a cabinet in the back to store recovery equipment and other things in. This is the card board mock up I built for it.

I worked on this a bit today. I mounted my scanner in the dash. I am going to make a shroud out of some thin sheet metal. I am going to cover the back and sides and extend it past the scanner some to act as a sun shade. I will probably wrinkle paint it.. not sure how I will finish it yet. I will rivet it to the plastic dash piece.

I will be taking my HAM test tomorrow. So long as I pass I will be ordering my Kenwood TH-D72A tomorrow or Tuesday. That will be my only one for the time being. I am going to order a few NMO mounts that attach to the roof rack (2m, 70cm and a multi-band for my scanner most likely) so I don't have to drill any holes right now. I may decide to drill later on but for now I am not. Once I get money for a mobile I will be ordering a TM-D710A

I like how you have your Uniden radio installed in the dash! Looks very neat!!!

I have a quick question for ya, its pretty noob-ish. I've been looking at GC 4x4, some of them have a chrome lever w/ 4lo & neutral buttons next to the shifter but some don't like yours. Is yours all the time 4wd or can you select a mode?

You are correct, I do have the new bezel already. I am actually getting ready to install an hf (icom 706 mkiig) in it. I have my hf antenna mount in the front bumper. I am using a ham stick type antenna right now.
