I am visiting for the next few months in the area between Indio and Brawley on the East side of the Salton Sea.
I have come across of number of 800 Mhz frequencies that have police, fire and EMS conversations on them ... but cannot find them listed anywhere.
Can anyone help me in figuring out what I am listening too?
I'm not sure if this is one or more systems.
The radio shows a P25 system ... but I can't find or lock onto the control channel.
I did find one control channel at 867.6250 but only got one talk group #1001

Any of the systems with (i) in parenthesis are Imperial County.
Unfortunately I don't know what system is used but I would try the Brawley and Salton City system. I know the Imperial TRS can be heard from the south/eastern Coachella Valley, so you should hear something (may have to search for control channels).

For Riverside County you want to monitor Desert
Riverside, County of (Public Safety) Trunking System, Various, California - Scanner Frequencies
Use the Indio talkgroups. For Indio PD they are using 158.730. Riverside Co Fire is on 151.130 for dispatching.

I have entered all the Brawley freq and the talk groups ...
Nothing happens on scan ... But if I stop on different freq, I get the talk group # but no audio.
It then goes into "Finding CtrlChan" ...
I have done a search and entered all the freq which sound like data ... however nothing seems to work.
Got any hints what to try next???

Also make sure you program as splinter for Imperial County.

Sounds like you might not have a good lock on signal. Try to get a better antenna, or change to different site on the system

When I go manual ... I have a few channels that sound like data ...
But I' don't think I have the control channel.
Do you have any secrets for searching for a control channel?

You mentioned "splinter" ... I'm not familiar with that term
Any assistance you can provide would be much appreciated.

The San Diego - Imperial County Regional Communications System (RCS) has a number of sites you may be able to hear from the east shore of the Salton Sea. Black Mountain, Superstition, Brawley, Salton City come to mind. Brawley and Salton City are "ground level" sites on ~150 - 200' towers. Each site has between 4 - 8 channels.

San Diego and Imperial counties are in a zone subject to special frequency use (the U.S. - Mexico Border Sharing zone). The 856.0 to 866.0 MHz range frequencies are "splinter" (look for that setting in your programming), offset - .0125 MHz from the normal frequencies (860.2000 instead of the normal 866.2125, for example).

Is there something that tells me which system to use?

Could it be named something else.

If the frequency is between 856.0 and 866.0, and has "0" as the 4th digit following the decimal instead of "5", it is splinter. (858.2125 is not splinter. 858.2250 is splinter).

Also ... I didn't see a Black Mountain in the listings ...
Could it be named something else.

Yeah, it's not obvious if you enter from the Imperial County page. I'll move some text over.

It's marked invisibly so if programming software is used it would indicate to it to program as Splinter.

The Splinter indication has never had enough steam behind it to make it really visible. There's been a lot of internal talk about it though.
