• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Apologies up front for the log post, but trying to give all the pertinent info. I have been using a PMNN4547A Impres2 battery in a top display only APX7000 (H97TGD9PW1AN) and charging with an Impres1 charger (NNTN7079A). I would run it most of the day (just listening), and charge during the night. I didn’t charge every night, probably 3-4 times a week. It would do the reconditioning on its own occasionally and I’d let it go all the way to solid green. One day after about 5 months, I noticed that the battery display wasn’t showing full - and, sure enough, it would start chirping and showing low battery after about 6 hours - it had been going much longer. I tried to force recondition, but with the same results. I recently got a second APX7000 with a full display, so now I’m able to read some details on the battery. I also switched to using an Impres2 charger ((NNTN8845A). When fully charged (solid green light), the radio shows Charge 35%, Rem Cap ~3100. That gave me the idea to let the radio run even with the battery chirping to see what would happen. It chirped and showed Low Batt for about 2 hours - I noticed it wasn’t chirping any more and thought it was dead, but when I looked at it, it was showing almost full (more so that what it had been showing when fully charged). I stuck the battery in the full display APX and it was showing Charge 70%, Rem Cap 2100. So, I’ve tried several things: recharging at that point; force reconditioning at that point; letting it run down again (just to showing low) and doing both those - nothing seems to work to get the battery to show full charge % when the capacity is full. So I have two questions: 1) was it possible I did something to cause this? My main concern is that if so, I don’t do it to any other batteries; 2) is there any way to get the battery back “in sync”? Here are a couple of other pieces of information: I cannot swear that I did the initial calibration correctly - I confess that I still have moments of reading directions when all else fails. But, it did see several months of use with no problems and this issue happened suddenly. Also, I did follow some advice that I read on one of the forums about having the radio sitting in the charger while loading codeplugs - so I did - and I loaded a lot of codeplugs early on.

Thanks for reading, and I appreciate any advice.

Danny
