• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

So - this might come off as a petty post but - I have an Impres Gang charger always plugged in at our house. Usually I have a few radios just sitting in the docks just to keep the batteries topped off.

My wife is complaining because it has a fan that constantly runs and is worrying that it’s adding a ton to our electric bill. Anyone have any ideas if this could impact an electric bill to a noticeable amount if it’s always plugged in and running ?

I’ve always had it plugged in and all the bays full but since we bought a new house my wife is worried that it will impact our electric bill. Someone please tell me she’s full of crap and it wouldn’t drain more power than her hair dryer would. Even if the bays are empty, the fan is always on and she’s still worried even with nothing sitting in it that it would still effect the electric bill.

I think she’s crazy.

There's a device you can obtain (I forget what it's called) and it will determine what amount of power an appliance draws. I think it costs around $30 and will give an approximate idea of what kind of power your device will consume. I seriously doubt if it will be substantial, even if you had all six ports occupied and in full-charge status. I could be wrong; I am not an electronics engineer, just a Ham Radio operator with LOTS of electronics plugged in and running in my house. Then again, I'm divorced and the sole occupant of a 3 bedroom tri-level in a west suburban Chicago suburb.

I'm guessing she doesn't have access to RR.
Hahaha you guessed correct. I’d be sleeping in the garage if she read this.

To all the other comments - thank you ! That answers my question. Don’t think it’s gonna “be enough difference to make a difference” ( Paul Harrell quote ) in our overall power bill.

Now to break the news to the wife . .

replacing the loud stock fan with 2 of the Noctua NF-A6x25 FLX makes the charger practically silent. Definitely helps with the WAF. You’ll need longer screws, but the mounting spots already exist.
