• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

I am in the process of setting up my "shack" in a closet and I would like to know what my options are for listening to my scanner(s) from anywhere in my home. I know I could use a baby monitor, but beyond that I am clueless. What kind of sound quality do baby monitors have? Is bluetooth a possibility, or wireless headphones. What extra equipment would I need?--Gary

I've done the FM transmitter myself and it works well. Don't fool with anything you can buy from the store. Get one from Ramsey.com and you can either build it yourself or get one prebuilt and you'll have much better range and enjoyment.

Be sure the actual transmitter is as far from the radios/antennas as you can get it. Yes, a tiny FM transmitter, if close, can desense your receivers noticeably, I've tried it. It may be weak, but it's right there.

Really, are the tiny ones from the store that bad?
Always thought about that.

Radio Shack has an FM wireless intercom that would be perfect! I have these in my home. The audio is loud, and very clear, full quieting, no static. They can run from 4-"AA" batteries, or an AC adapter. They even have a lock-on transmit, and an RCA connector for an AUX input. Frequency is selectable 910-914MHz. Range is 200 feet.

I know this is a late post for this subject, but just wanted to add that I use an FM tramsitter from Crane that works very well. I have it hooked-up to my Pro-2096 in my office on the first floor and listen to it on various FM radios throughout the house. The range and sound quality is excellent. There's even a simple tweak that can be made on the Crane that improves distance as well.

One of the FM radios I use is the BC370CRS analog scanner/clock radio from Uniden. I have that on my night stand. Whenever I want to listen in on digital, I switch over to programmed FM station on that one to receive the scans from the Pro-2096 downstairs. If the wife gets annoyed enough, I put the headphones on ;-)
